D-AIR® IS CREATED
The prototype of the D-air® airbag for motorcyclists was developed together with the Israeli firm Merhav APP and presented in Munich.

2004
SAFETY RESEARCH PROJECT
The D-air® project was given support by the Safety Research Project. This was an in-depth study into rider and vehicle dynamics, in collaboration with Vittore Cossalter, a lecturer in mechanical engineering at Padua University.
2006
THE FIRST D-AIR® DEPLOYMENT
Saw a positive outcome of the first D-air® Racing deployment stunt-test on track in Adria.
2007
D-AIR® RACING
During the Valencia Grand Prix, the Dainese R&D department introduced D-air® Racing in full active form. During the practice sessions, a fall by Simone Grotzky saw the first airbag deployment.
2008
D-AIR® STREET TESTS STARTED
The first crash tests on the D-air® Street prototype were carried out as part of the SYM project.

D-AIR® RACING IN EVERY CLASS
During the German Grand Prix, for the first time, a rider in every category was wearing a suit fitted with D-air® Racing.

2010
TÜV SÜD CERTIFICATION
Having passed more than 800 individual tests, the D-air® Racing system was awarded certification by TÜV SÜD, one of the most highly respected European certification centres in the sector.

D-AIR® STREET FROM THE TRACK TO THE ROAD
After the launch of the D-air® Racing, the D-air® family grew with a new road-going version: the D-air® Street.
2012
ADAC TESTS
The exceptional performance of the D-air® Street system was officially recognised by ADAC, the respected German Automobile Club. The results confirmed that the D-air® Street system has a total deployment time of 45 ms.

TÜV SÜD CERTIFICATION FOR D-AIR® STREET
Having passed more than 800 individual tests, the D-air® Street system as well was awarded certification by TÜV SÜD.

D-AIR® STREET FOR THE MOTORWAY PATROL SERVICE
Dainese supplied the Italian Motorway Patrol Service with D-air® Street for the riders who acted as security guards on the 2013 Giro d’Italia.

D-AIR® WITH IVECO
As part of the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, Dainese and Iveco presented new solutions for protecting the occupants of light and heavy commercial vehicles.
2013
D-AIR® RACING WITH BMW
Collaboration began between Dainese and BMW to integrate the D-air® Racing system in the suits that BMW dedicated to the 1000RR motorbike. At EICMA in 2013, the DoubleR RaceAir was presented as the first result of this collaboration.

DOCTORS AND BIKES
Dainese and the Team Doctor of the Trauma Team belonging to the Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital in Milan run by Prof. Osvaldo Chiara, presented the largest ever collection of data about motorbike accidents in Italy. Since 2011 this highly prized database had been used for D-tec Research and for the development of the D-air® protective platform.

2014
SRA TESTS
The D-air® Street system also passed the SRA tests (Sécurité et Réparation Automobiles) and was awarded a five star rating, the highest possible score in the category.

D-AIR® STREET, DUCATI AND DAINESE
In April 2014, Dainese took great pride in announcing the first D-air® air bag to be fully integrated with a motorbike: The Ducati Multistrada D-air® comes with a special factory fitted wireless system that communicates with D-air® Street Ducati and Dainese jackets.

YAMAHA AND DAINESE
Dainese and Yamaha renew their partnership at the global launch of the R1 and R1M. Dainese unveils the customised version of its D-air® Racing air bag suits based on the colour schemes and style of the R1M.

FIRST REAL-LIFE CRASH TEST FOR THE D-AIR® SKI
First real-life deployment for the D-air® Ski. Jan Farrell, 2014 Speed Ski world champion, provides the first crash test at a speed of 80kph, demonstrating the system’s effectiveness.

METROPOLIS D-AIR®
Dainese and Peugeot Scooters formalize a new step in their partnership for safety thanks to Metropolis D-air®. Dainese and Peugeot Scooters have teamed-up in a project that will see a wireless D-air® Street airbag jacket offered with the Metropolis, a three-wheeled scooter.

D-AIR® BECOMES AN "OPEN PLATFORM"
Dainese presented the D-air® Armor, the “open platform” air-bag based on D-air® technology. This innovative system is the result of over 15 years research by D-Tec® (Dainese Technology Centre) into the air-bag technology of air. D-air® Armor is a racing suit’s undergarment featuring an integrated D-air® air-bag. Thanks to D-air® Armor, all riders can now take advantage of the safety provided by D-Air®, the same technology used by all official Dainese riders.

FIRST D-AIR® ARMOR ACTIVATION
First activation for the D-air® Armor in an official competition, only two weeks after its presentation. Moto 2 World Championship rider Sam Lowes fell twice during the first day of the Catalunya Grand Prix: both times the system promptly deployed, protecting the rider perfectly.

D-AIR® WINS IN THE ENDURANCE RACES
For the first time in history, a professional motorcycle racer wearing an electronic air-bag system wins an Endurance World Championship race, thanks to Vincent Philippe’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The D-air® wins also the Suzuka 8 Hours with Pol Espargaró, who gets the title together with Bradley Smith. The system proves its reliability once again, perfectly protecting the Catalan rider during his fall in the qualifiers.

D-AIR® MISANO 1000
Dainese celebrates 1000 deployments of the D-air® system by presenting the D-air® Misano 1000 leather jacket. This new Dainese product features a stand-alone electronically deployed air-bag for road use.
